TREND ¦ Undercut and Styling Tips

Hello guys!

Actually today i headed out to the hairdressers for a new do as one might say.

I think the biggest trend this year is The Undercut

With this style by having the sizes shaven/scissor cut short and longer length on top, versitility comes into play. With an undercut multiple styles can be worn.

See how the hair slightly falls over the shaven/razored sides. This is what is key.

This is what the style looks like in full. The hairdresser styled the fringe down across the face to one side. The back of the hair around the crown area is shorter layered to add texture and so that you can play around with the styling more and the length at the front allows you to slick back, sweep back and allow a messy style.

Here ive just swept it over a little! i personally prefer this style a lot more.

To achieve a similar effect you can run some product through your hair such as a styling gum or texture paste, then style as you dry and use hairspray to hold.

My favourite products i love to use are the Topman styling putty which i did a blog on their grooming range here!   I

also love Trebor Sorbie Clay which retails at £6.75 but you get alot of product and it smells great!

With this clay always warm it in your hands like a wax then distribute evenly and style where necessary!

And oddly enought i also like to use Lynx Spiked up Structured cream. This product also smells great and works really well! It has a great texture and is so easy to work with and its like just over a few quid! bargain. I was dubious when they crossed over into hair products but i really love the texture of this creams. There is also a wax and another clay/cream product. They also do styling gels but i havent tried yet and would love too for a slick back look.

I know it's more of a wave than a curl but you get me, This style is also hugely tending. Using your straighteners to create curls, then brushing them out to achieve this voluminous wave which you can achieve a really natural look with.

James Alan echos this natural style well! Check out his latest cover here! Great style and great voice!

If you want to take this look to a more smarter state then simply when your hair is wet add some product, find your side parting with a comb and make distinct parting. When you dry your hair simply dry along the parting line from the root down the side of your head and then feel free to make the length on top smoother or go messy!
A hair stylist who did the above cut for me really went all out but this is another version you could try. The length on top is nice and straight and thickness and volume is added using product and brushing. A round brush with bristles all the way around is crucial for this style so you can get that swifty quiff.

Volume is essential for creating these pompadour type modern quiffs. If your hair lacks volume there are plenty of volumising/thickening shampoos/products!

Thickening Products tend to contain glycerine, this helps the hair retain water and swells the hair strand by lifting the cuticle. The hair's cuticle is a hard shingle-like layer. Under normal circumstances, these shingles lie flat. Many thickening shampoos cause the cuticle to open up, causing the hair shaft to swell. In this state, the hair is more vulnerable, so following up with a good conditioner is recommended.

A great thickening product is BED HEAD cocky thickening paste (dodgy name anyone?)

and if you're using heat to style make sure you have a  a shampoo / conditioner that contains protection. It may be seen as feminine to some but if you want to be stylish youve got to take care of your hair.

TRESemmé do a great 'Thermal Recovery' range!

'Restore your hair's natural vibrancy and help protect it against breakage from heat appliances that reach 450°'

So lets wrap this post up!

An undercut would make a great change and you can go as bold as you like or keep them fairly natural. Either way this style can be tailored to anyones likings and changed to to be made your own! The styling of the cut and the colouring make it unique to you. If you have an undercut you want to share show it to me!

Or if you don't think about it! it took me a while to go for this cut but i really like it now and i can change it up all the time.

Hope you enjoyed this A/W Hair Trend post!

Cya soon folks!,
