Navajo/Fairisle/Nordic are all similar in their print and pattern and will always be an essential key piece to any mens wardrobe. This post will be on knitwear since we are in A/W season but ofcourse there are other forms of clothing which will be another day!

Traditional patterns have a limited palette of of about five or so colours, use only two colours per row. (Look at me trying to sound clever!)

I found a great article that briefly explains the history of navajo print and how it comes to be so relevant.

"The colorful modernist aesthetic of the Navajo print has made it a prominent pattern for many designers this season, but the print itself has a history that is centuries old.
While the Navajo people had traditionally constructed their clothing from cotton, the Spanish introduced sheep when they arrived, and with them, wool to the region upon their arrival.  The breed of sheep that the Spanish brought  produced a thick, long wool that helped to give Navajo Blankets their trademark warmth.
The Navajo pulled the color palette for their blankets directly from the hues that surrounded them.  In using the earthy tones that filled their scenery the Navajo perfectly captured the essence of Southwestern America within a garment.  As trading routes to the Southwest opened up and the rest of the nation began to have greater access to Native American cultures, the desire for items, such as Navajo Blankets, that were quintessentially Southwestern increased substantially.  This demand has continued to rise consistently throughout the decades and continues today.  Thanks to the distinct look of the blankets as well as their functionality in keeping the wearer warm, the Navajo Blanket pattern has always remained relevant.  This season though many more designers have employed the pattern and featured it in their collections thus giving more modern notoriety to a traditional pattern."

This print on knitwear is great for layering up! for example over a denim shirt or a white shirt etc, it adds alot of class to an outfit, and looks great peeking out from a coat!

These jumpers also look good with really worn denim jeans and desert boots or brogues.

All of these prints vary in style and colour. Some are all over, some are just on the front, some are on details like panelling etc.

£16 Tescos
And what's great is that The latest designer prints are sifted down to high street brands so the luxury of looking great is available to all for low costs!

Here's some of my top picks from a range of high street brands varying from £16, to around £30. You can get really heavyweight woolen knitwear and for this you will expect to pay more im afraid from £35 upwards.

£30 from River Island
£35 from River Island
Try a bolder print for more of a statment with your outfit, be bold! I love this.
£26 from Asos

£35 from Asos
£26 from Asos
Of course these picks are only my personal preference but i think they/a similar print could work well and aren't too bold if the thought of this print scares you a little.

So get in the knavajo knitwear for winter now. I just purchased a recent buy from topman.

They have some great pieces in their half price sale right now. I tried to get a picture but i can't find it on the site so ill add one on Twitter so please check there!

I will do a post on other navajo/fairisle/nordic/aztec printed clothing TREND posts another time.

Im also thinking of doing Trend based outfit recommendation posts (that's quite a mouthful, must rename.) So hopefully that will come across well!
